Kong Wah LAI

Kong Wah graduated from the Bachelor of Science in Economics program in HKUST and spent a few years in the private sector in Hong Kong before pursuing his PhD in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh.

He became an Assistant Professor of Economics at Lehigh University since 2009. His research areas are in game theory and experimental economics. One of the current faculty members of HKUST, Prof Wooyoung Lim, was his classmate and is now his co-author.

His suggestion for those who are interested in further study in economics is to sharpen their mathematical skills. For those who were not from the science stream in secondary school, don’t be afraid of math. It is just a language that, like every other language, takes time to learn. His grade was C+ in the two calculus courses he took at UST, but he eventually overcame his fear of math and ended up teaching PhD microeconomic theory these days, which was beyond his imagination in the past years when he was an undergraduate student.
